What it is

ClayStage speaks MCP, the open standard (think of it as a universal plug for AI apps) that lets an assistant like Claude connect to a service and use its tools. Connect once, then build by chat: "a marble vase on a concrete pedestal, soft window light, camera low and close." Claude assembles the scene in your studio while you watch, then you press Generate.

Connect in three steps

1

Add the connector

In Claude, add a custom connector with this URL:

https://claystage.studio/api/mcp
2

Sign in & Allow

Claude opens a ClayStage sign-in page. Sign in and click Allow. No tokens to copy. Claude now works as you: your plan, your credits, your private scenes.

3

Turn on Claude control

In the studio, open your name menu and switch Claude control on. Describe your shot and watch it build.

Step by step

In the Claude desktop app (or claude.ai). Custom connectors need a paid Claude plan (Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise).

https://claystage.studio/api/mcp
  1. Open Settings in Claude (press ⌘,, or click your name → Settings), then open the Connectors tab.
  2. Click Add custom connector (it may sit under a "Browse connectors" or + button).
  3. Name it ClayStage and paste the URL above. It must start with https://. Click Add.
  4. Find ClayStage in the list and click Connect.
  5. A ClayStage sign-in page opens. Sign in (or you're already signed in), then click Allow. No tokens to copy.
  6. Open or start a chat and make sure the ClayStage connector is enabled for it.
  7. In the studio, open your name menu and switch Claude control on (the dot turns green).
  8. Describe your shot, e.g. "a marble vase on a concrete pedestal, soft window light, camera low and close." Watch it build, tweak anything, then render.

What Claude can do

It uses the same building blocks you do, so plain language turns into a real, editable scene.

Reference

Match a photo

Share a reference image and Claude rebuilds the look from ClayStage parts: backdrop, materials, lighting and framing.

Set the scene

Backdrop & props

Cyclorama walls, as many stages and pedestals as the shot needs (they stack additively), models, and 3D text placed where you want them.

Look

Materials & finish

Apply any material, recolor with hue and saturation, tune texture tiling, and add believable wear: dust, fingerprints, fine scratches.

Light

Lighting & HDRI

Studio rigs and HDRI environments, plus gobos for window light and patterns — gobos can track objects and animate.

Frame

Cameras

Add cameras, set focal length and aperture, auto-frame any object, switch perspective or orthographic, and cut between cameras.

People

Characters & poses

Add a person, dress them, pose them, set their expression and gaze.

Structure

Groups & hierarchy

Group and ungroup, parent under nulls, duplicate, rename, lock, show and hide — full scene surgery by chat.

Motion

Animation

Animate objects, orbit the camera, even set up a dolly zoom, all keyframeless — then export a motion clip.

Finish

Generate

Claude validates the scene first, then you press Generate (or ask Claude to). It renders on your plan, in your browser.

Safe by design

A connected Claude can use only a fixed set of ClayStage tools, and it runs as you. It can never reach your files, other people's work, or anything outside the studio. The browser still does the rendering, and generation still uses your plan's credits, so nothing happens without you. Revoke Claude's access any time: your name menu, then Account & settings, then Connected apps, then Disconnect.

Ready to try it?

Claude control is included on Creator, Studio and Teams. Free accounts can connect and browse, and upgrade any time to build.
